Future Playstation 3 system software changes I want to see happening

I'll probably add some concept pictures if I have time to make them. I updated them with short descriptions.
  • Universal Music Player
Pretty much explains itself. Ability to play your music from PS3 HDD when game is running. Even if the game doesn't support this feature. Currently games have to support this feature before hand or patched later to support it for it to work.
  • Universal Voice Chat Rooms
Come on. Microsoft pulled it out like day zero on Xbox 360 with Xbox Live and Sony is still having problems to bring it to PS3? Maybe those weird rumours of some big and really important (tm) company helding this feature back are true after all.
  • Universal Voice Messages
Another great feature of Xbox Live. We should be able to send 30 seconds or more voice messages which our friends can listen later on if they're not online at the moment. I personally prefer writing but this feature just makes so much sense that it's hard to belive Sony haven't already added it to PS3 feature list.
  • Universal RSS Reader (Like the one on PSP)
Pure stupidity not to have RSS reader on PS3 when PSP has it. RSS feeds help you follow what's happening around you. It would also be great feature which Xbox Live doesn't have. PS3 also has www-browser which would be perfect companion to RSS reader.
  • Internet Radio Player (Like the one on PSP)
This is one of my favourite features on PSP. I can listen pretty much any internet radio station I know and get lots of great music from it. It's functionality is based on internet browser PSP and PS3 already have. So adding that PSP menu to PS3 shouldn't be problem. Besides Xbox Live has built in Last.fm support. How about having it also on PS3? I know generic internet radio stations are free and probably better off but those willing to pay for that service might actually enjoy more out of Last.fm. PS3 already has www-browser which you can use to view your Last.fm account and songs you have listened but because of the old flash version you can't listen any songs with it.
  • Skype (Like the one on PSP)
Pretty much most useful feature PSP has. Why not to include it on PS3? It would also provide much needed voice chat features which PS3 doesn't have.
  • Replace "text messaging" function with proper IM function.
Makes communicating with a friend a lot easier. It doesn't have to be real time where you join in some kind of chat room. Sending messages into conversation tree provides more natural and easier way to send and receive messages from friends. Since they are organized under date or topic which each user can set (every participant can have their own topic for same conversation) for that message box.
  • Native IRC support to replace akward Text Chat Rooms.
I really hate current text chat rooms. That's nice concept but it needs some refinement. Allow more users on chat, allow chat room makers to kick guys whom act bad from the rooms. (Consider it also for A/V chat rooms.) Allow us to take part in the grand internet chat communes and not chain us inside Sony's own systems. Freedom is what we need here. Most annoying "feature" of the current text chat rooms is it's ability to censorship important words. Any kind of censorship is from ass because it makes communicating difficult and it will not stop us using bad words.
  • ”Friends” list should be renamed to “Contacts”.
Because most of the guys on my list are not my friends but my gaming companions which I hardly know any in person. Consider adding more features to make it small addressbook alike software. It would help to make PS3 useful with phones and stuff. Look what Apple's doing with iPods. Even if they are just music players they have ability to sync contacts and store them for later use. PSP should have similar feature and to manage it PS3 would be perfect. Also how about adding Media Go with compatible software and making most of the Sony-Ericsson phones compatible around this consept?
  • Jabber support or something like it to talk with friends.
"Text messages" currently used by PS3 system is soooooooooo 90s. Why did Sony add that kind of feature? Why not make it more like email suite then? Xbox Live has MSN/Live Messenger feature which allow you to chat between Xbox, smart phones and desktop computers among other machines. It is modern day form of text messaging. PS3 should have IM client too which stores conversations you go with your friends to logs which you can search things for later on. It should be constructed on top of free protocols like Jabber which anyone and anybody can use to chat with each other no matter where they are and what are they doing. PS3 spesific feature would only work on users in front of PS3 of course but it's a concept worth thinking about. I could talk about this feature for hours.
  • PSN Store icon in Games menu should be removed asp and moved to replace PSN Store icon in PSN menu while PSN Video Store icon should be just moved to PSN menu.
Ads? In my XMB? NO WAY IN HELL! One of the reasons I chose PS3 because IT DIDN'T HAVE ANY ADS IN UI! (Unlike it's competitors.) Besides having multiple icons for same stuff is just stupid. Didn't Apple already teached that simple thing about basic UI design. If you want make it more accessible and try not to confuse users with multiple icons. It's a trap many easily fall into. Video store should have it's own icon in PSN menu not in video menu. PSN menu is offering services and PSN Video Store is service offered by PSN. It's more logical that way.
  • ”What’s New” should be redesigned to be similar to PSP’s “Information Board” which is easier to read and access.
This was so stupid move from Sony that I hardly can understand what was the meaning of this. To have centralized way to tell people what should they buy next? Doesn't "What's New" make "New PSN Store" icon useless? I hardly understand this move. It needs to go and should be replaced with something more useful and easier to use. Why not to take PSP's "Information board" and add some fancy 3D effects in it? It would be perfect way to browse news from Sony and stuff they think should be worth people to know about. It would be also easier to read and get into. And not just notices on "We now got game X in store" but messages like "PS3 update will be online next week" or "PSN will be down 24.12.2009 for a maintenace". Something useful for people. It's not hard to make happen. How about local gaming news also?
  • Option to set font size of XMB by hand.
I have an SD television. I was happy with small fonts. I want smaller fonts. I understand if people with HD televisions or HD screens need to have bigger fonts. I've seen PS3 connected to HD screen and font size really was too small so it's needed. But for me it's just annoyance atm. Please add option to set XMB font size manually.
  • Remove the box line around PSN status bar.
It's ugly. It doesn't fill it's purpose and makes XMB look cluttered.
  • Ability to browse XMB by using hand gestures if you have PS3 Eye Camera.
  • Ability to browse XMB by SixAxis motion features.
Like two awesome features. Not only would Sony beat Microsoft's Natal's most useful feature they would also make people use their controller's motion sensing features nobody seems to use at all. In fact people seem to hate most of the motion sensing features in the games. How about using SixAxis as a mouse in www-browser? At least worth trying out. Right?
  • Video messages.
Feature which is based on developing voice messages further on. It would probably be useless feature which only few people use actively (most people won't use it because of the lack of PS3 Eye camera) but at least it would be cool feature to have. How about adding Youtube support for it and making PS3 perfect video blogging device?
  • Improve WWW-browser windowing system and it’s support for standards like HTML5 and CSS3.
This is so important that I cannot underline it enought. Www standards and PS3 browser probably make the difference between _any_ new feature added to Xbox 360 like Facebook, Twitter or Last.fm. PS3 already can access those sites like more common Windows based desktop computers can. Why not to try to improve the experience? Why not to allow PS3 to have unlimited amount of the support services the great internet can provide? For example popular Playfire.com might not be accessible on Xbox 360 but it can be accessible on PS3. What a great addon! What about MySpace? Xbox 360 doesn't support MySpace yet but PS3 does! How about improving these and lots of other things PS3 users experience when using it's browser?
  • Lightgray backgrounds behind white text without shadowing in Contact list which should be removed immediately effective in next firmware upgrade!
Fuck you Sony! Revert this back to like it was. It's just fucking ugly and so meaningless. >:|
  • When XMB is inactive fade it out so that watching animated themes is more enjoyable.
Consider it Sony. If you want to sell animated paintings or like I would put it, "screensavers", shouldn't you allow people to watch them too?
  • I want the PS3 logo back when game starts or at least some kind of audio/visual hint. I liked that bell sound.
Please? It's great to have at least small audio or visual or both as a hint what's going on. Just bell sound is enough.
  • Ability to set passwords for PS3 system profiles.
Not for myself but my friend. He has kids these days and while he'd love to set times on machine when kids can play it he most of all would like to have accounts on PS3 which can only run certain games and content but also protect his own account so that his kids won't access it and use his PSN wallet to buy stuff for example.
  • Easy bug reporting system for PS3. I don't care if it's some support site or built in XMB. Just give us something.
Make it easier to communicate with communities built around PS3 and PSN. Allow us directly tell you guys what we'd love to see next and really allow us to help our selfs by helping you to fix things which aren't working. Take an example from Apple if you don't mind.

  • Drop the censorship in text chat
The censorship in text chat. It’s killing me… First of all. Censorship doesn’t work. May I ask what's the point censoring english and japanese swearings in finnish language chat? Some of the those words are common finnish language words or parts include similar expressions. In worst case you just end up teaching kids how to swear using foreign words.

For example “In here” translates as “Tässä” and looks like “T***ä” on PS3 text chat.

Not to mention about double moralism. PS3 chat doesn’t censorship finnish word for ass which is “pylly”. It does however censor similar word “perse” which is “anus” in english.

Healtcare in United states of America

After reading today's newspaper I had this feeling to write something about this matter as a guy who lives in a nation where free healthcare system is in place and working. Let's start.

Healthcare system in United states of America. It is from horses ass. 45-50 million people do not have health insurance, costs are in rise and most common reason for personal bankrupts is person not being able to pay for their insurance. Doctors earn highest wages in the whole world.

There is huge problem within the society if healthcare system is unable to produce enough health for everybody or if it's costs rise so high that society can't afford them anymore. It sucks to be american right now because they have both problems and their society is in deep crisis.

But that isn't the actual problem. Problem is that most americans are so stupid and uneducated that they do not even know that what Barack Obama is trying to make happen is probably the best option for them. Republican representatives lie to their people so that they can earn few points for their next campaigns. Example of this is the latest comment from the Sarah "Queen of the Hearts" Palin whom claimed something irresponsible and outrage stupid. She's probably trying to kill her supporters, I think.

Can't you guys just pull it together and start rational talks about the matter at hand? Whom are so stupid that they start fighting when should be working together? Where is that famous american team spirit?

Like it or not but stupid shit like "Obama Lies, Grandma Dies" should be left out. That's bullshit. Nobody would ever want anybody dead, except your lawyers who get rich for that. Besides if jump to unknown scares you guys then why not to do it? Anything is better than your current system. And system won't change in just one night. It probably takes months or years and might be worth experimenting. Besides if you don't like the change you can always change back. At least you should allow people you voted a chance to prove their stuff.

And please watch Michael Moore's "Sicko" documentary. End part where they visit England, France and Cuba is great.

M.A.G.

While I'm into this now... M.A.G. has been reviewed by Destructoid... check out their article about it. It's quite interesting how makers of SOCOM and Planetside are making PS3's "Massive Action Game" and how it's development is progressing.

Gamesharing on Playstation 3 is illegal

You can read the full story from here: Gamesharing is illegal, right?

Basicly. If you have downloaded games and addons from PSN and "share" them by giving your PSN account name and password then you have broken law. You also break the law if your friend uses your account to download games and to use one of the five activation keys Sony has provided for personal use (cases where your PS3 brokes and you have to activate new one inorder to play games).

And talk about problems... This is all commonsense, not giving away your passwords to anyone. Why people claim this being fully legal when it's clear it is not.
